One day Old Chick

These are birds which are one day old and are very delicate to handle. They require maximum care and close monitoring. Each bird goes at a price of Ksh 100 and sales of more than 50 birds, attracts a discount not more than 10%.

Two Weeks Old Chick

At two weeks old, the chicks are manageable and still require proper upkeep, feeding and proper medication. All our birds are sold after vaccination against respective attacks as explained in the table below under vaccination programme. They are sold from Ksh 130 to Ksh 150 per bird depending on volume of purchase.

Mature Chicken

These are birds ready for consumption and can be left for egg laying purposes. Prices vary as shown in the shopping center in the top right side of this page. Prices also depend on volume of purchase and discounts issued accordingly in line with volume of purchase.


We deliver chicken to areas within Kisumu at a cost which is agreed upon between the seller and the buyer subject to location safety and security and number of birds purchased. We do the KYC check (Know Your Customer) and customers may be required to verify their identity for delivery outside Muhoroni. We also deliver within three business days from time of purchase.

About Poultry

The term “poultry” refers to domesticated birds kept by humans for consumption. Poultry provides meat, eggs and feather to human beings.

Poultry farming is a term that is used to refer to a form of animal husbandry that raises the domesticated birds to produce meat, eggs and feathers. Poultry are organized into four different categories of i.e. domestic waterfowl, domestic land fowl, game birds and other poultry.

Chicken Farming in Kenya

There are two main ventures in poultry rearing, eggs and meat and for this reason one can specialize in 3 types of chicken i.e. Layers, Broilers and Kienyeji.

How to Raise Layers

Before you start layering of the layers, one is required to prepare before the arrival of the chicks. Chicks should find a well prepared area in order to grow healthy. The preparation includes the proper housing, roofing, the room should be spacious enough for exercise, and feeding troughs should be clean. The area should be well sheltered, clean sleeping area free from predators. The area should also be free from direct sunlight and rain. The area should be well ventilated.

When making the floor, cement floor are good when it comes to cleaning. The brooding area should be kept clean. You should provide litter for your chicks in order to absorb the moisture from the manure on the floor. The litter can be of wood shavings or hay. You should not place smooth surfaces on the floor for they can cause leg problems. Use pieces of wood or cartons are advisable too for brooder guards. For heat you can use jikos or pots.

When it comes to raising layers, ventilation is very important. Ventilation is achieved when one allows free air to enter and leave the room freely. Therefore the house should be open sided for ventilation. House with high pitched roof provides more space for more natural movement of air in and out.

Managing Layers

When it comes to brooding, one is required to clean the house properly and disinfect it before the arrival of the chicks and prepare the brooder three days before. Before the arrival of the chicks, you should ensure that the chick feed and water are in place. The water should have disinfectant. You should ensure that the source of heat is on 7 hours before arrival of the chicks.

Before the arrival of chicks, ensure you disinfect at the footbath that should be changed after 2 to 3 days. Feeders and drinkers should be ready before the arrival of the chicks.

One should ensure that the feeds are available 2 days before the chicks arrive. Glucose, chick mash, paraffin and the vitamins for the chicks should be available.

Immediately after the arrival of the chicks, ensure you are aware of the number of chicks you are having. Count all the chicks, put them in a brooder and check their health condition .Ensure they are active, health and alert. For the first 2 days, give them water and fill the feeders. As time goes by, your chicks get older and now they can feed on bigger feeders and so you should reduce the level of feed. Ensure there is enough feeder space.

Chicks require water for their health. Drinkers should be distributed through the house depending on the number of chicks one is raising. It should be done evenly and the feeders too should be distributed evenly in the house. Birds requires time to find the feeders and waterers, you should provide them with light around the clock for the first week.

During brooding, for the first 7 to 10 days you should use a circular barrier to confine the chicks. This will prevent the chicks from wandering far from the source of heat. The room should be spacious and large enough for chicks to move to and away from the heat source freely.

Chicks are not able to regulate their own temperatures for the first one week and for this reason they need a source of heat. In case chicks tend to move away from the brooder, the amount of heat in the house should be reduced.
