 Use of advanced technology improves production poultry and many other advantages in so doing. Technology is used in poultry farming in so many ways, can be in kienyeji raising, broiler or even raising layers. Use of technology has brought a bigger impact in the society.

New digital technology is used in raising birds in the following ways.

The use of digital video camera images in analyzing the activities of chickens is another emerging technology. This technique enables one to obtain a lot of data over a long time period. One can use video analysis in investigating the behavior of the chickens under different stocking density.


In raising the birds, they require a lot constant attention, cleaning, sanitizing, collecting eggs and regular checking of birds. This work is time consuming and tiresome when done by human beings as compared to robots. New digital technology has come with the use of robots in raising of birds where by the robots are used in collecting of eggs. Robots are nowadays used to collect eggs and for this reason it’s not necessarily for the farmer to do the work. This also reduces the chances of causing injury to the farmer. Robots are also used in cleaning of the floor. Robots can clean the floor just like the human being does. This reduces the amount of labor done by the farmer.

Robots are also used in areas like evaluating the environmental factors like brightness and temperatures.


Use of drones is another digital technology used in raising birds. Although drones at times tend to scare the birds, they are used in monitoring of the flock and the environment in the real time.

Another technology used in raising birds is use of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is used to replicate what human being does. Artificial intelligence in this case is used in monitoring the feeds of the birds. Just as human beings can monitor the feeding of the birds, so the artificial intelligence does. Artificial intelligence also is used in making production and also in things like processing improvements


Digital technology has come with sensors for the individualized monitoring. Sensors are used in measuring ammonia level in the house. Ammonia detection refers to relatively new condition that is being imposed on poultry growers. Increase in ammonia can be a big problem in most of bird's houses.

Light Sensors in poultry are used to regulate the amount of light in the house. Higher light intensities have a lot of benefits to chicken welfare improvement.

 In case of an increase in temperature beyond the required level, temperature and relative humidity sensors will detect. Measuring of temperature in the house of birds is one of the most important thing the farmer should be aware of. To ensure that buildings have enough temperature distributed uniformly and a satisfactory level of humidity, several sensors should be installed that should be located in various sectors of each building to give more reliable data.

There is also an air speed sensor that ensures uniform air speed distribution inside the building. To achieve this, you ensure air speed sensors are installed in the building to monitor this variable. In case the air speed goes below the required level, it may reduce the productivity of the birds and too high speed beyond the range especially in cold areas can lead to chilling.

 Some sensors are designed for carbon dioxide monitoring. Measuring the level of carbon dioxide in the house of birds is good since it can give a good indication of a good ventilation system in the house. In case of an increase in level of carbon dioxide beyond he required level, it can cause drowsiness and confusion in birds. By using these sensors can help reduce the effects of excess carbon dioxide.


Another technology that is used in birds layering is the use of chicken translators. Chicken translators are used mostly in detecting in case of a disease. Certain sounds produced by chickens can be indicating sickness, health or comfort. By listening and understanding the sound of a health chicken, the producers are tuned in to signals of distress and this can reduce stress.


Virtual reality is a digital technology that works by constructing a visual representation of a flock. This type of technique helps the farmer by allowing him to check their flocks remotely and send the data back to the computer program. Virtual reality can also be used in veterinary education in terms of teaching tools and this will reduce the work of visiting the farm.

Block-chain is another technology that is used in creating transparency and tracking for the food system.


3D printing is a method used in poultry especially in production areas where parts are difficult to obtain. Instead of one waiting for parts to be ordered from far, those parts can be printed in real time on-site. 3D is also used when it comes to minimizing production losses and also in meat printing.

Also used in ensuring traceability of the poultry products sold in stores. Block chain method also monitors all aspects of the food supply chain. As technology keeps on advancing, it came with the use of artificial incubators that are used in hatching eggs. Use of incubators is an advanced way of hatching eggs. This method is preferably used since many eggs can be hatched at a time. When using an incubator, it’s easy to plan when to hatch your eggs when you are ready. An advantage of using incubator is that the eggs are free from diseases and parasites that might attack chicks after hatching. The incubator is well controlled and everything is managed well including the temperatures and the humidity to a level that is required.
